not guilty for marijuana

A 16 year old boy in Livingstone has pleaded not guilty for being found in possession of marijuana by the Livingstone magistrate court.
Appearing on Wednesday before Livingstone magistrate Asden Shanduba, was a grade nine pupil of Dambwa primary school in Livingstone.
When the matter came up for plea, the boy told court that he had understood the charge of being in possession of psychotropic substances but however he denied the charge.
“I have understood the charge, I deny being found in possession with the said drugs,” the juvenile said.  
The juvenile was in court in the presence of an officer from social welfare department.
“I will record a plea of not guilty,” magistrate Shanduba said.
The charge of trafficking in psychotropic substances is contrary to Section Six of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Chapter 26 of the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that on August 11 this year, the boy trafficked in psychotropic substances namely 4.2 kilograms of Marijuana a herbal product of cannabis Sativa without lawful authority.
The prosecution then applied to the court to have the matter adjourned to a later date and the court granted the application to the state.
Matter was adjourned to September, 8 and 22 for mention and trial has been set to commence on October first this year.
